Doctors and Magicians Out of Business [justin]

Every now and then I journey through poetry. Here is my latest writing. Be sure to listen to it being spoken in the sound clip… it’s always interesting to me the different dynamics between written and spoken word.

Vigilante

He took the wheels off the hearses
cause they weren’t going anywhere, anymore
Turned them into art galleries
a history of what once was
and would never be again

He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us

He put pure water into cracked jars
threw them into church buildings
filled cathedral ceilings
with wind and fire filled mouths

An act of arson, some wailed and accused
because they confused
Him as a vigilante
rather than the vindicator

The fulfillment of the law
always seems like the destruction of it
to those whose hands are so unjust
whose hearts are devoid
and unemployed
of mercy

He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us

He was part of a cult, they said
for He fed
the nomads His blood
and carved off slices of His flesh from His thigh
making others cannibals of truth

To the autonomous, righteousness always seems
like desire constipated
rather than liberated
now free to follow something more that the self

Doctors and magicians all out of business
The men in suits complain
for their fame
was to live off of death, but now what?
This certainly won’t be good for our economy
because…

He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
He was like us in every way, but one
He was one of us, but He was nothing like us
